Pastor Calvin J. Harris

 

Pastor Calvin Harris is a native of Columbus, Georgia and the son of Mrs. Earline Harris and the late Eddie B. Harris, Sr. Pastor Harris graduated from Hardaway High School in 1987 and entered the United States Army at the age of 17. He served the next 21 years in the United States Army with  honor and distinction. He holds both a Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Business Administration from Strayer University. Pastor Harris met the former Ms. Wanita Joyce in 1987 and on August 4, 1988, they joined hands in marriage. The Lord has blessed their marriage tremendously over the past 32 years and has blessed them with three beautiful girls, Shanice, Crystalin and Gabriella.


His military career has taken him to numerous places around the world like Rome Italy, Paris France and Germany. He served honorably in the First Gulf War, Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Somalia, and in the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. Through those many troubled times, God was his present help, preserving Pastor Harris for a time such as today. While serving his country, Pastor Harris has also served honorably under the leadership of several of the greatest leaders in the Church of God in Christ, Superintendent Leon Ross, Elder Charles Givens, Superintendent Tony Campbell and the late Assistant Superintendent Geno Thomas. Under the leadership of these great men of God, Pastor Harris served tirelessly on many different auxiliaries and committees. He has served as Sunday School Superintendent, Pastor's Armor Bearer, YPWW, Bible Band teacher, Pastor's Aide President, Choir President and Chairman of the Finance Committee. Pastor Harris also served numerous outreach ministries for the church.


As a member of Reconciliation Church of God in Christ, Pastor Harris served as the President of the Youth Department, YPWW, Bible Study and Sunday School teacher, member of the Special Project Building Committee and President of the Pastor Aide Committee. While at Reconciliation, under the leadership of the late Assistant Superintendent Geno Thomas, Pastor Harris was ordained an Elder in 2009. On December 24, 2011, God called Pastor Geno Thomas to rest.


Pastor Harris was called to pastor Reconciliation Church of God in Christ and officially installed as the Pastor in June 2012. In December 2014, Bishop Ted Thomas appointed Pastor Harris Assistant Superintendent of the Richmond/Petersburg District. Later the same year Bishop Ted Thomas appointed Pastor Harris a Trustee Board Member of the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Virginia. He also currently serves as State Evangelism Department President. Pastor Harris has served as a dedicated worker in the ministry for many years. The outreach programs established under Pastor Harris’ leadership have flourished and continue to grow with excitement of being about our Father's business. Pastor Harris established the Bi-Annual Community Day Event which is an event not only established to promote unity in our community but also to inform community residents of the various community organization available to assist them in their day-to-day lives. Reconciliation is active in various community activities including; mentoring at the local Boys & Girls Club, nursing home visitation, Feed More Backpack Program, Safe Haven (Homeless Ministry), The Giving Heart Thanksgiving Outreach ministry, Angel Tree and many other outreach programs. Pastor Harris’ vision for Reconciliation is to “Shine as lights in this world, directing the Lost to the Salvation of God with the Ministry of Reconciliation through love and good works and the help of the Holy Spirit.” As Pastor Harris continues the work of God and the care of God’s people, he looks forward with great expectation seeking God for His counsel, His wisdom and most of all, His direction.
